The fifth time’s a charm for former Vikings defensive end Jared Allen. After narrowly missing out on the gold jacket in each of his previous years of eligibility, Allen’s wait finally ended on Thursday night when he was officially elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Jared Allen, whose NFL path started with the Kansas City Chiefs, has been elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. A pass rushing specialist, Allen went on to play six seasons with the Minnesota Vikings and finish his career with the Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers. He racked up 136 career sacks, leading the NFL twice in that department.

Freeney was joined last year by Julius Peppers, a first-ballot choice who played five more years and had one fewer first-team All-Pro selection than Allen. A year earlier, DeMarcus Ware, whose career numbers are virtually identical to Allen’s, got in on his second year of eligibility.
