Middle Creek Wildlife officials brace for perfect storm of migrating snow geese and avian influenza
There was a snow goose die-off due to HPAI at the beginning of January at flooded quarries in Lower Nazareth Township in Northampton County and Upper Macungie Township in Lehigh County. This has officials concerned about the spread of the virus. The game commission cleaned up over 5,000 dead snow geese from both sites.
Sections of Middle Creek closed during snow geese migration as precaution against bird flu
The game commission also strongly discouraged residents from visiting if they have pet birds, domestic poultry or connections with commercial poultry facilities.
Middle Creek prohibits access for snow geese viewing due to avian flu concerns
Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area announced Monday that effective Tuesday, Feb. 4, public access will be prohibited in the areas of the preserve commonly used for viewing the annual mass migration of snow geese and other birds.
