With his retirement from OU in 2018, David Boren concluded a half-century public career. It included three decades in elected office, during which he never lost an election.

He was 83. Funeral services are pending. Considered at one time to be Oklahoma's most popular conservative Democrat, Boren attended Yale University and was a Rhodes Scholar. He served as a professor at Oklahoma Baptist University around the same time he first ran for public office − earning a seat in the Oklahoma House of Representatives in 1966.
