Metro Denver residents can ride Regional Transportation District buses and trains for free on Tuesday as part of Transit Equity Day to honor civil rights leader Rosa Parks.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — TriMet riders in Portland will enjoy free rides tomorrow, Feb. 4, in honor of Rosa Parks, as the transit agency commemorates what would have been her 112th birthday. Each year, TriMet waives fares on buses, MAX, and LIFT services to celebrate Parks and her significant contributions to the civil rights movement.

On Transit Equity Day, TheRide is honoring Rosa Parks by reserving a seat for her on each bus with a sign commemorating her pivotal role in history.

When stepping on the bus today, you’ll see a seat already taken, but no one is in it. The seat is set aside today for Rosa Parks. Chatham Area Transit is honoring the legacy of Rosa Parks with a special initiative – free rides for everyone.

As part of an annual celebration to honor the birthday of civil rights activist Rosa Parks, regional transit agencies will offer free rides on buses, trains, and other modes of public transportation.

RTD said Transit Equity Day is observed on Rosa Parks’ birthday and was first celebrated nationally by the U.S. Department of Transportation in 2021.
