Adam Silver explains why he and the NBA can't veto this season's controversial Luka Doncic trade despite ruling over Chris Paul's past trade.

After the Mavericks traded Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers at last week's NBA trade deadline, there was an overwhelming thought from fans that commissioner Adam Silver should have stepped in and vetoed the deal.

According to Shams Charania of ESPN , the Lakers are getting Doncic, Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris in the deal. In return, the Mavs receive Anthony Davis, Max Christie and LA's 2029 first-round pick. The Utah Jazz helped facilitate the deal, with Jalen Hood-Schifino and two second-round picks headed their way.

Before the trade became official, a few fans wondered whether NBA commissioner Adam Silver could step in and keep the move from going through. Although Silver didn’t immediately acknowledge if he was talking about the Doncic trade,

"NBA commissioner Adam Silver will select two injury replacements for the All-Star game with Anthony Davis (adductor strain) and Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf strain) out for a period of time," Haynes shared in a post on X.
