Mexico's Ministry of Defense security forces killed the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, known as "El Mencho," in a military operation.

The Mexican army killed Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, “El Mencho,” decapitating what had become Mexico’s most powerful cartel.

Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, also known as “El Mencho,” was the head of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. The Mexican government said he was killed on Sunday.

School was canceled in several Mexican states and local and foreign governments alike warned their citizens to stay inside following the army’s killing, and the violence it spurred.
