It was no surprise to Avalanche Head Coach Jared Bednar that MacKinnon downplayed his accomplishment that saw him join Joe Sakic and Peter Stastny as the only players in franchise history to reach 1,000 points.

Nathan MacKinnon became the 100th player in NHL history to reach 1,000 career regular-season points Monday night against the Chicago Blackhawks. It happened 31 seconds into the third period. MacKinnon left the puck for Devon Toews at the right point, and Artturi Lehkonen deflected it past Chicago goalie Spencer Knight.

MacKinnon's big moment had a false alarm earlier in the game after he assisted on a Martin Necas goal in the first period. The entire Avalanche bench came onto the ice following the goal to celebrate, but it was later disallowed for an offside.
