Kendrick Lamar took the stage at Super Bowl LIX for the halftime show and promptly laid waste to Drake. While it was an interesting show, particularly considering the whole “Not Like Us,” angle, it also marked the continuatin of a more than two-decade streak of country music acts being shut out of the lead spot at halftime of the big game.

Chris Stapleton is retiring from singing the national anthem. The country music singer, who performed the song during the 2023 Super Bowl, shared the news in an appearance on Dale Earnhardt Jr.‘s “Dirty Mo Media” podcast .

Ed Askew, a cult folk music singer/songwriter and painter, died on Jan. 4. He was 84. PEOPLE Magazine reported that Askew had been battling “ongoing health struggles” and had been in hospice.
