The company recently filed to trademark the ‘Mach 4’ name in the United States. Last year, Ford reportedly showed dealers a sketch of a possible four-door Mustang. The idea of an extended Mustang lineup isn’t exactly a groundbreaking concept.

A four-door Mustang coupe appears to be closer than ever to becoming a reality, because as of Tuesday, as Ford has officially filed to trademark the name “Mach 4” for a motor vehicle.

We’ve come close to seeing a Ford Mustang sedan several times in the model’s history, but the project has never materialized. While nothing is official yet, Ford recently added fuel to the four-door bonfire by trademarking the Mach 4 name.
