NYPD welcomes record number of recruits to the force at swearing-in ceremony
This is the fourth class to enter the police academy this year, for a total of more than 4,000 people joining the department in 2025.
The department swore in 1,143 new recruits Wednesday, bringing the total NYPD headcount to more than 34,700 officers. That figure represents the highest staffing level since May 2022 and moves the department closer to its goal of reaching 35,000 officers by next fall.

Off-duty NYPD officer under investigation for fatal Rockland County crash
ORANGEBURG, N.Y. - An NYPD officer is under investigation after they were allegedly involved in a crash that killed a man in Rockland County over the weekend. New York Attorney General Letitia James announced the investigation into the off-duty officer on Wednesday.

A former NYPD officer who left a man paralyzed after shooting him during a road rage incident in Voorhees has been sentenced 10 years in state prison. Hieu Tran, 28, of Yonkers, New York, will have to serve at least eight years, six months before he is eligible for parole. He pleaded guilty to attempted murder on Nov. 5.
