Vice President JD Vance is leading the highest level of face-to-face engagement between leaders of the United States and Iran in decades.

U.S. and Iranian delegations met with mediators in Pakistan ahead of talks aimed at shoring up a shaky ceasefire and paving the way for a permanent end to the fighting. It marks the first such meeting since the war began more than a month ago.

US Vice President JD Vance has arrived in Islamabad alongside the US delegation. Peace talks are due to begin in Pakistan’s capital today. Iran’s parliament speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf has said a ceasefire in Lebanon and the release of Tehran’s frozen assets must happen before negotiations begin.
