After posting points in three straight games with nearby rivals, the Flyers completed a lost trip to New York on Friday night with a 3-1 clunker at UBS Arena against the bottom-feeding Islanders. For a second straight night, erratic defense proved the Flyers’ undoing.

This is what it looks like when the season slips away in January. A disastrous second period, a total squandering of momentum, a team that played most of the night as though nobody was on the same page and a home crowd that sounded more disappointed than upset.

The Flyers are now 1-7-1 on the second night of a back-to-back game. Tyson Foerster scored the lone goal for the Orange and Black in the first period.
