A celebration of public transit is held on Feb. 4, to honor the birthday of pioneering civil rights leader Rosa Parks. The mood among transit officials should be upbeat. But it's not.

RTD said Transit Equity Day is observed on Rosa Parks’ birthday and was first celebrated nationally by the U.S. Department of Transportation in 2021.

Today is Transit Equity Day. It commemorates the birthday of pioneering civil rights leader Rosa Parks, who famously refused to give up her seat to a white passenger on an Alabama bus in 1955. But this year, the celebration is being eclipsed by recent orders from the Trump administration.

Transit Equity Day means passengers ride public buses, trains for free in San Bernardino County, including the Victor Valley.

All RTD rides will be free on Tuesday, February 4, as the metro Denver transit agency celebrates Transit Equity Day. Though RTD didn’t offer a free month or more of rides for adults last year as it had in 2022 and 2023,
