Police are investigating the death of a woman experiencing homelessness as a possible homicide after her injured body was discovered at Santa Monica Beach.

SANTA MONICA, Calif. - A homicide investigation is underway in Santa Monica after a homeless woman's body was found on the beach Monday, according to police. Officers responded to a report of an unresponsive adult near Lifeguard Tower 1550 along the waterline around 7 a.m.

The Santa Monica Police Department is asking for help solving the suspicious death of a woman discovered on the Santa Monica Beach who was discovered with significant injuries to her face. According to SMPD,

The woman, found in a sleeping bag at about 7 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10, had visible facial injuries, Santa Monica police said in a news release. Firefighters pronounced the woman dead at the scene, police said. She was found near the waterline. She has not been identified, police said. Her cause of death remains under investigation.

The ocean waters from Malibu to Santa Monica remain off-limits due to the recent rains and fire debris carried to the coast.
