North Texans woke up to bone-chilling temperatures and negative wind chills Thursday morning with those conditions expected to last a little while longer. The National Weather Service’s extreme cold warning,

Frigid, bitterly cold temperatures and dangerous wind chills continue across North Texas through Thursday morning. An extreme cold warning is in effect until 9 a.m. It includes all of North Texas, while counties further east remain under a cold weather advisory.

An updated extreme cold warning was issued by the NWS Fort Worth TX on Thursday at 3:29 a.m. in effect until 9 a.m. The warning is for Montague, Cooke, Grayson, Fannin, Lamar, Young, Jack, Wise, Denton,

Frigid temperatures and dangerous wind chills continue through Thursday morning. Wind chills will be low enough to damage interior and exterior plumbing.

With an extreme cold warning and winter weather advisory in effect for much of North Texas, families closely watched to see whether school districts would cancel classes. Most districts scrapped after-school activities, while some called off classes altogether due to the cold.

Extreme cold warnings go into effect at midnight and last through 10 am for most of SE Texas. Tomorrow afternoon will feel better with temperatures climbing to the mid-40s under mostly sunny skies. The sunshine will make the afternoon feel much better outside.

We were lucky to not have many issues on the roads due to winter precipitation from our arctic front. But the big talker was the lake effect snow – take a look at some of the snowfall totals provided by the National Weather Service out of Fort Worth.
