Mar 29, 2022 · The Supreme Court of Maryland is the State of Maryland’s highest court. The Supreme Court hears cases primarily by way of certiorari, a process that gives the Court discretion to hear appeals where it concludes that doing so is desirable and in the public interest.

The Clerk’s Office is the public office of the Court and its primary mission is to support the Court’s judicial functions by maintaining and managing dockets; receiving and processing briefs, petitions, records and other papers; and maintaining the permanent records of appeals.

Effective December 14, 2022, the former Court of Appeals of Maryland is renamed the Supreme Court of Maryland and the Court of Special Appeals is renamed the Appellate Court of Maryland. This is a change in name only and does not affect the precedential value of the opinions of the two courts issued before the effective date of the name change.

Apr 18, 2024 · The Appellate Court of Maryland is Maryland’s intermediate appellate court. The Court considers appeals from almost any case that originates in a circuit court or an orphans’ court in Maryland. Parties who are unsuccessful in the Appellate Court may be able to seek further review in the Supreme Court , Maryland’s highest court.

– On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, the Supreme Court of Maryland held oral arguments in Baltimore City as part of an ongoing outreach effort to educate students on the Maryland court system. The arguments were heard at Frederick Douglass High School’s Northwestern High School campus and livestreamed.
